The Republic of the Firesand was founded by those who led the rebellion against Old Alceyn. Life in the desert seems to breed independence, and the people of the Firesand were no exception. After they successfully shattered the power of Alceyn, they could have easily settled outside the desert, but they retreated to the Firesand and marked it as the boundaries of their republic, which offers unprecedented freedom to its citizens.
